If you’re buying in Waxhaw, here’s what I’d take from these records. Of the 23 physicians on the 2025 list at offices within 12 miles, 18 work in ZIP code 28277, around Ballantyne and Blakeney. That doesn’t make the Waxhaw office a lesser choice, and it ranks sixth here on the same records. It does mean the drive north toward Ballantyne is worth pricing into your pediatrician search, the same way you’d price it into a commute.

Why only one pediatric office has a Waxhaw address

Only one pediatric practice within 12 miles lists a Waxhaw address, and that’s partly because a Waxhaw address covers far more ground than the town does. ZIP codes follow mail routes, not town limits. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2020 ZIP Code Tabulation Area relationship file, the area behind ZIP 28173 overlaps the Town of Waxhaw, the Village of Marvin, the Town of Mineral Springs, the Town of Weddington, the Village of Wesley Chapel and the JAARS community, and only 11.4% of its land sits inside Waxhaw’s town limits. The other five places cover 20.2%, and 68.4% lies outside all of them.

That means a Waxhaw address may put you closer to Wesley Chapel or Marvin than to Main Street. The Novant office on Providence Road describes itself, on its own page, just north of downtown Waxhaw, near Marvin and Mineral Springs. The Wesley Chapel office six miles away uses ZIP 28104. So instead of stopping at the town line, I drew a 12-mile straight-line circle around Main Street and Broome Street in downtown Waxhaw. It reaches north to the Ballantyne office parks along Interstate 485, east to U.S. 74 in Indian Trail and Monroe, and west into Indian Land and Fort Mill. Distances are straight-line miles between Google’s geocoded coordinates, so your drive will run longer.

How the ten were ranked

The ten were ranked on four measures, in this order, and you can check every one from a public page. The unit is the office, one street address, because that’s where your child is seen.

• Top Doctors honorees at the office. The number of physicians named to Charlotte Magazine’s 2025 Top Doctors list, which Castle Connolly compiles from peer nominations. A physician counts at an office only when Castle Connolly’s own profile and the health system’s current page both place that physician there.
• Board certification. The share of the office’s physicians whose general pediatrics certificate shows as current in the American Board of Pediatrics public verification.
• Access points, 0 to 3. One point each for weekend hours or a weekday close of 6 p.m. or later at that office, for same-day sick visits or walk-in hours stated on the practice’s own page, and for at least one physician there accepting new patients.
• Distance. Straight-line miles from downtown Waxhaw, closer first.

One rule sits above all four: an office with a physician under formal discipline from the NC Medical Board or the SC Board of Medical Examiners would drop below every office without one. Non-disciplinary records wouldn’t count, such as the public letter of concern that the NC board’s glossary says it issues when discipline isn’t warranted. None of the 62 physicians appears in either board’s list, so you won’t see the rule move anyone.

The count includes practices that describe themselves as pediatrics and list at least one physician. It leaves out family medicine offices that also see children (such as Atrium Health Primary Care Waxhaw Family Medicine, plus Atrium Health Primary Care Barnett Family Medicine and Novant Health Indian Land Primary Care in Indian Land), urgent care, pediatric dentists, therapists and subspecialists. Bloom Pediatrics in Fort Mill, 11.9 miles out, lists two pediatric nurse practitioners and no physician, so it isn’t in a ranking of pediatricians.

1. Atrium Health Levine Children’s Providence Pediatrics, Ballantyne Lake Road

This office at 14214 Ballantyne Lake Road, Suite 300, is 10.6 miles from downtown Waxhaw and has the most honorees in the count: Dr. Nathaniel Bales, Dr. Sharonjit Grewal, Dr. Monica Miller, Dr. Katherine Robinson and Dr. Nandita Singh. All seven physicians Atrium lists here, including Dr. Megan Hooks and Dr. Pardeep Kesrani, show current ABP certificates. Its page lists same-day sick visits, weekday hours of 8 to 5 and Saturday sick visits here from 8 a.m. to noon for existing patients, and every physician shows as accepting new patients. If you can live with the longest drive in the top three, this is where the records point first.

2. Atrium Health Levine Children’s Charlotte Pediatrics, Blakeney

At 6235 Blakeney Park Drive, 8.1 miles out, four physicians meet the both-sources rule: Dr. Chpryelle Carr, Dr. Harshita Reddy, Dr. Stephen Renfrow and Dr. Arthur Spell. All seven physicians Atrium lists here show current ABP certificates. Dr. Adam Faizi, another 2025 honoree, is on this roster too, but Castle Connolly places him at the SouthPark office, so he isn’t counted here. The practice page lists same-day sick visits and weekday hours of 8 to 5, and you’d go to the SouthPark office for Saturday sick visits, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

3. Novant Health Pediatrics Blakeney, Ardrey Kell Road

Just down the road at 9224 Ardrey Kell Road, Suite 200, 8.5 miles away, four of the five physicians are 2025 honorees: Dr. Wilma Downing, Dr. Rachael Fournet, Dr. Laura Netzley and Dr. Ankur Shah. All five, including Dr. Ivana Vukovic, show current ABP certificates, and that’s the highest honoree share in the count. Novant’s page posts Saturday hours of 9 to noon, and all five physicians show as accepting new patients. It tied Atrium’s Blakeney office on everything but distance.

4. Novant Health Pediatrics Ardrey Kell

This office at 8169 Ardrey Kell Road, 8.3 miles from downtown, has three honorees: Dr. Kimberly Davis, Dr. Elissa Levine and Dr. Ankita Modi. Three of its four physicians show a current certificate on the ABP’s public lookup. Weekday hours run 8:30 to 5, all four physicians show as accepting new patients, and the practice page adds weekend hours from 9 to 11 a.m. for newborn visits only, plus video meet-and-greets each morning if you’re choosing a pediatrician.

5. Novant Health Child & Adolescent Medical Group, Wesley Chapel

At 6488 Weddington-Monroe Road, six miles from downtown Waxhaw and near the Wesley Chapel town hall, two of three physicians are honorees: Dr. Thomas Pittman and Dr. Holly Smith. All three, including Dr. Tiffany Ohta, show current ABP certificates. The practice page reserves same-day and next-day appointments for sick children and sends you to its Monroe office for Saturday sick visits. 6. Novant Health Child & Adolescent Medical Group, Waxhaw

The one office with a Waxhaw address sits at 3614 Providence Road, Suite 101, 1.5 miles from downtown. Two of its three physicians are honorees, Dr. Susan Duncan-Butler and Dr. Lori Yanchik, and all three, including Dr. Deborah Queen, show current ABP certificates. Its honoree share matches Wesley Chapel’s, and what moved it down is posted access: weekday hours of 8 to 5, Saturday care sent to the Monroe office (per its page), and Dr. Queen and Dr. Yanchik listed as “May accept new patients” with Dr. Duncan-Butler not accepting. That doesn’t make it a weaker office. It makes it one you should call before you close on a house.

If I were buying in Waxhaw this fall, the first call I’d make wouldn’t be about awards. It would be to ask whether the doctor I wanted was taking new patients, because the listings here read three different ways: accepting, not accepting and “may accept.” That last one means the answer lives with the front desk, not the website. I’d also ask where Saturday sick visits happen. Five of the ten offices in this ranking send you somewhere else for them or don’t post weekend hours at all, and on a Saturday morning with a sick kid, the address matters more than the ranking does.

7. Novant Health Child & Adolescent Medical Group, Monroe

At 1994 Wellness Boulevard, 11.7 miles out, this is the farthest office in the top 10 and the Saturday stop for the Waxhaw and Wesley Chapel offices. Its honoree is Dr. Laura Pridemore, and all six physicians show current ABP certificates. The practice page offers same-day, next-day and Saturday appointments with Saturday hours of 9 to noon, and Dr. Pridemore and Dr. Kenneth Prushik show as accepting new patients. Three access points lift it above the other one-honoree offices.

8. Atrium Health Levine Children’s Rea Village Pediatrics

At 11530 Providence Road, Suite 2200, by the Ardrey Kell Road intersection and 8.9 miles out, the honoree is Dr. Renu Doshi. All three physicians show current ABP certificates (the ABP lists Dr. Debbie Chavez-Mitchell as Chavez). The practice page lists same-day sick visits and weekday hours of 8 to 5 with no weekend hours, and all three physicians show as accepting new patients.

9. Novant Health Ballantyne Pediatrics

This office at 14215 Ballantyne Corporate Place, Suite 130, 11.1 miles out, has one honoree, Dr. Traci Ladd, and all six physicians show current ABP certificates. It posts the latest weekday hours in the top 10, until 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Its page says you can see a provider quickly after work hours and on Saturdays, yet its posted hours list Saturday as closed, so ask where weekend visits happen. Three physicians show as accepting new patients.

10. Novant Health Pediatrics South Ballantyne

At 16139 Lancaster Highway, Suite 110, on U.S. 521 between Marvin Road and Ardrey Kell Road and 9.4 miles from downtown Waxhaw, this office has no 2025 honorees. It earns the tenth spot on access, the only office without an honoree to score all three points: its page offers same-day and next-day sick visits, even on Saturdays, with Saturday hours of 9 to 11. All three physicians show current ABP certificates, and Dr. Craig Davis shows as accepting new patients. The page mentions 7:30 a.m. weekday appointments while the posted hours start at 8, so confirm the early slot if you need it.

What the Top Doctors list tells you, and what it leaves out

The Top Doctors list tells you that other physicians nominated a doctor and a research firm reviewed the nomination. As Atrium Health described the process in 2024, doctors are nominated by their peers and Castle Connolly then evaluates qualifications, education, hospital and faculty appointments, research leadership, professional reputation and patient outcomes. Charlotte Magazine publishes the regional list each year, and each honoree’s Castle Connolly profile shows the years. Every profile I opened stopped at 2025, so that’s the newest edition I could confirm on September 27, 2026.

What it leaves out matters just as much. A nomination isn’t an outcome measure, so it can’t tell you how a doctor handles your child’s needs. Counting also favors bigger offices, since seven physicians give more chances at an honoree than three. That’s why the table shows headcount beside honorees, and why Novant’s Blakeney office, four honorees among five physicians, may matter to you as much as the office ranked first. You can check any name in the Castle Connolly search for pediatrics near Waxhaw.

What the board certification check found

Of the 62 physicians at these 16 offices, 60 show a current general pediatrics certificate in the American Board of Pediatrics public verification, which the board says is updated each business day. (One physician works at two Atrium offices, so the office rosters here add up to 63.) The records I pulled on September 27, 2026 were stamped as of September 25, 2026. Per the board, a current status means the doctor met its education, training and exam requirements and is keeping up with its ongoing ones.

The other two work at different offices. At Novant Health Pediatrics Ardrey Kell, 3 of 4 physicians show a current certificate and the fourth record reads as not currently certified. At Atrium’s Indian Trail office, outside the top 10, 3 of 4 show one and the search for the fourth returned no match, which a name change can cause. The ABP’s glossary says a physician who isn’t currently certified “might have expired or lapsed, or the individual might be on a leave of absence,” and that the status can be reevaluated once requirements are met.

To check any pediatrician yourself, search the last name in the ABP’s free lookup and read the status line. If nothing comes back, try a maiden or hyphenated name before you draw a conclusion.

On the state boards, none of the 62 physicians appears in the NC Medical Board’s public board actions, which list 569 disciplinary and non-disciplinary actions from January 2, 2024 through September 25, 2026, or in the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners public orders, which list 1,188 orders going back to 1985. Because the NC archive covers three years, use the board’s licensee search if you want a physician’s full public record.

Saturday hours, sick visits and new patients

Hours are where these offices differ most, and it’s the part you’ll feel on a sick Saturday morning. Of the top 10, five post weekend hours at the office itself: Providence Pediatrics (Saturday sick visits for existing patients), Novant Blakeney (Saturday 9 to noon), Novant Ardrey Kell (weekend mornings for newborns only), Novant Monroe (Saturday 9 to noon) and Novant South Ballantyne (Saturday 9 to 11). Novant Ballantyne stays open until 6 p.m. two weekdays but posts Saturday as closed. The other four send weekend care to a sister office or don’t post weekend hours.

Same-day sick visits are stated in words by every Atrium office in the count and by Novant’s Wesley Chapel, Monroe and South Ballantyne offices. Novant’s Waxhaw, Blakeney, Ardrey Kell and Ballantyne offices describe prompt or quick care without the words same-day, so they didn’t get that point. That’s a rule about what’s written, not a finding about how fast they’ll see you, and your phone call settles it.

New patients are the moving target. Atrium showed every physician at its offices accepting new patients on September 27, 2026. Novant uses three labels, and in the top 10, 17 Novant physicians read as accepting, 9 as “may accept” and 4 as not accepting. Those labels change as panels fill, so check again the week you plan to call.

The six practices outside the top 10

Six offices had no 2025 honorees and fell below South Ballantyne on certification share, access points or distance. None had a public board action, and one may suit you better than a higher-ranked office depending on where you live and how you want to pay.

• Novant Health Waverly Pediatrics & Primary Care, 11840 Southmore Drive, 8.6 miles: children and adults in one office, with weekday walk-in hours of 8:45 to 11:15 a.m. and 1:45 to 3:30 p.m. All five pediatric physicians show current ABP certificates.
• Petite Pediatric Care, 8430 Rea Road, 9.7 miles: a self-pay membership practice, out of network with all insurance carriers though vaccines are billed through insurance, with no set office hours and same- or next-day appointments. Dr. Namrata Wheeler shows a current ABP certificate.
• Atrium Health Levine Children’s Rock Hill Pediatrics, 1935 Holbrook Road in Fort Mill, 10.7 miles: same-day sick visits, weekday hours of 8 to 5, three physicians with current ABP certificates.
• Atrium Health Levine Children’s Pediatrics, Monroe, 3173 West Highway 74, 11.4 miles: same-day sick visits, two physicians with current ABP certificates.
• The Children’s Clinic, P.A., 8351 Charlotte Highway in Indian Land, 6.4 miles: an independent Lancaster-based practice that takes walk-ins at both offices and accepts South Carolina Medicaid. One page lists Indian Land hours as 8:30 to 5:30 weekdays and another as 9 to 5. Dr. Carmina Cruz-Dayrit shows a current ABP certificate under the name Cruz.
